Where can I track a Zimbabwean passport application, and can it be done online?

The first place to track a Zimbabwean passport is the official Civil Registry passport portal. If the application began at an office or embassy and no useful online result appears, follow up through that submitting channel. The correct route depends on who currently holds the file: the applicant, a mission, a nominee, a Passport Office or the collection point.

Online tracking

The Civil Registry website states that it tracks passport requests from submission to delivery. Use the government domain ending in \`civilregistry.gov.zw\` and enter the application reference exactly as printed. Bookmark the official page rather than following repeated links from adverts or social-media comments.

An online result is useful evidence, but it may not explain a referral or an overseas hand-off. Note the wording and date, then ask the submitting office what action, if any, it requires. Do not pay someone to interpret or alter the status.

Tracking through a Zimbabwe office

Contact or revisit the Civil Registry office where the application was accepted. Take the receipt, reference, national ID and collection slip. Ask staff to identify the file’s stage rather than demanding a new completion date immediately. “Awaiting verification,” “in production” and “ready at another collection point” require different responses.

If an office directed you to supply a correction, follow up with proof that the exact document was received. A general enquiry at an unrelated branch may produce little information if that branch cannot access or control the application.

Tracking an overseas application

Begin with the mission if it still holds the form or is responsible for cancellation. If the authenticated pack was returned to you, track the courier until the nominee receives it. Then obtain the Passport Office submission reference from the nominee. When the new passport is complete, collection may still wait for proof that an unexpired old passport was cancelled. Track that cancellation step separately.

Can another person track for you?

An authorised nominee may follow up on a pack they submitted, but they should carry the written authorisation, their own identification and the application records. A relative with no authority may be refused information to protect the applicant’s privacy. For a child, the parent or guardian connected to the application should make the enquiry.

Safe escalation

If the status has not changed beyond the advised period, contact the original office with a concise timeline: submission date, category, reference, payment, biometric date and last status. Ask whether a supervisor can confirm the outstanding stage. Keep copies of each response.

Do not submit a fresh application merely because the tracker is temporarily unavailable. First confirm whether the original was accepted. Online tracking is the quickest channel when it works; the submitting office remains the authoritative place to diagnose a specific delay.

Where possible, make enquiries during published service hours and keep the response in writing so later follow-up begins from an agreed status.
