Passports and Travel Documents
What documents and requirements are needed for emergency passport in Zimbabwe?
Emergency Zimbabwe passport checklist with core identity records, lost-passport evidence, name-change documents, compliant photos, fees and urgent-travel proof.

An emergency-passport application uses the normal identity checklist plus the priority processing category. The higher fee buys faster handling; it does not permit missing originals, unresolved names or incomplete biometrics. Build the pack around your particular case rather than copying a stranger’s list.
Core identity documents
For an adult, prepare:
- The original long Zimbabwean birth certificate and a clear photocopy.
- The original Zimbabwean national identity document and a copy if you are 16 or older.
- The current or expired Zimbabwean passport, if one exists, plus a copy of the biographical page.
- Two identical colour passport photographs that meet the receiving office’s dimensions, background and appearance rules.
- A citizenship certificate where citizenship was acquired by registration, descent or naturalisation, or where the office requests confirmation.
Published embassy requirements commonly specify photographs about 3.5 cm by 4.5 cm, a plain white background and dark upper clothing. They may prohibit glasses and jewellery and require hair to leave the facial outline, ears and neck visible. Follow the current local sheet, because a technically unsuitable image can defeat the purpose of priority processing.

Add documents required by your circumstances
Take a marriage certificate if the application uses a married surname, a divorce order where relevant, or formal name-change documents if you changed your name another way. Foreign-issued status or court documents may require authentication. For a child, include the child’s documents, the signing parent’s or legal guardian’s original ID or valid passport, and any guardianship order or parents’ death certificates that apply.
For a lost or stolen passport, add the original police report or affidavit requested by the office. Do not hide the loss and describe the application as a renewal. The previous passport must be located in the system and treated correctly to reduce the risk of misuse.

Evidence of urgency
Official procedures can differ on whether evidence is mandatory for the paid emergency category. To avoid a wasted visit, carry credible proof of the deadline: a medical referral, death or funeral notice, employer letter, school communication, court document, appointment notice or confirmed itinerary. The evidence should identify the traveller and explain the date. A screenshot with no sender or context may not be persuasive.
Payment and attendance
Statutory Instrument 1 of 2024 sets the emergency-passport fee at US\$250 and an additional US\$20 charge for the application QR code. Confirm whether the office quotes the components separately or as a US\$270 total, and whether any embassy administration fee is payable in local currency. Pay only through an authorised channel and keep the receipt.

The applicant must appear for document authentication and biometric capture. A nominee cannot supply your fingerprints or approve your photograph. Before signing, compare the captured details with the birth certificate and ID. Ask the office to state the estimated completion time and collection evidence in writing or on the receipt.
Finally, carry copies without surrendering irreplaceable originals unnecessarily. Priority cases fail most often when speed leads the applicant to skip comparison, photographs or proof. A complete, consistent file is more valuable than a dramatic explanation of urgency.

Frequently asked questions
How do I apply for an emergency Zimbabwean passport?
An emergency Zimbabwean passport is a full passport processed through a priority category. It is not the same as a temporary travel document, which is generally issued abroad for a limited one-way return to Zimbabwe. Choose emergency processing only after confirming that the office can meet your travel date and that your identity records are complete.

Emergency Zimbabwean passports are issued through authorised Civil Registry passport offices, not travel agents, airlines or ordinary immigration counters. If you are abroad, a Zimbabwean embassy or consulate can explain whether it starts the application locally or authenticates a form that must be processed in Zimbabwe. Confirm the route before committing to travel.

Emergency processing shortens the production queue; it does not shorten the identity investigation. If the Civil Registry cannot confirm who you are, what name is lawful or what happened to the previous passport, the application can miss the urgent deadline despite the higher fee. Diagnose the obstacle instead of paying another intermediary.
